History of sailing

The navigation has more advantages than disadvantages, it allows making longer and safer trips, go fishing, go hunting etc. So throughout history, humans have sailed from their distant past until now. The structure of the boats have changed over time: The Malays began using palm or bamboo, the Phoenicians and the Egyptians used the linen. But today everything has change: The competitions ships are made by plastic and some of them with artificial materials, and the transoceanic ships are made by iron (they are moved by a engine).

The earliest representation of a ship appears in Kuwait dating to the late 5th millennium BC. Later, the navigation developed the sail (The history of sailing has no specific origin. There are many possible origins. The Phoenicians, the Chinese, Arabs, Vikings, Polynesians...). This technological advance caused some radical changes in the commerce and the conquests. The trade traffic and the invasions became a maritime activity. After this, some civilizations advanced in sailing technology: Basically with their ships size, the charge and the capacity, the navigation equipment and the types of the sails. The best examples are European explorers who made long voyages into regions with extreme weather and climatic conditions, so they had to perfect their ships and their technique of navigation.
Today in some parts of the world still uses sailing as a means of commercial transport, but it has mainly become part of our sports and recreational activities.
